BMI Calculator
भारतीय शरीर के लिए सही BMI मानक
Most BMI calculators use global (WHO) cutoffs that were built around Western body composition data. Research shows Indian and other South Asian bodies carry more visceral fat and face higher diabetes/heart risk at a lower BMI — so global charts under-flag risk.
This calculator uses the stricter Asian BMI cutoffs recommended for Indian populations, giving you a more clinically relevant category.
How It Works | कैसे काम करता है
Enter your height and weight. BMI = weight (kg) ÷ height (m)². We classify the result using Asian cutoffs: under 18.5 underweight, 18.5-22.9 healthy, 23-24.9 overweight, 25+ obese.
Frequently Asked Questions | अक्सर पूछे जाने वाले सवाल
Answers written for Indian women — honest, practical, and doctor-verified.
Why are Asian BMI cutoffs different from global ones?
Studies show South Asians develop diabetes and heart disease at lower BMI levels than Western populations, due to higher visceral (abdominal) fat at the same BMI. The WHO recommends lower cutoffs for Asian populations as a result.
Is BMI a perfect measure of health?
No — it doesn't account for muscle mass, bone density, or where fat is distributed. A muscular woman could show "overweight" on BMI without excess fat. Use it as one data point, not the full picture.
What should I do if my BMI is in the obese range?
Talk to a doctor about a personalised plan. Small, sustainable changes to diet and activity are more effective long-term than extreme diets.
Does BMI apply the same way during pregnancy?
No — pregnancy weight gain is expected and tracked differently. This calculator isn't meant for use during pregnancy.
